The name says it all here. This is a game designed to boost your level of vocabulary, by giving you a definition of a word, which you must type in the box. However, you don't have time to sit and think for ever about the word, because you're playing against the clock. The quicker you can guess the word which is defined in front of you, the better the score you get, so hurry up!

		Beat the Clock is an innovative program which tests and builds vocabulary through testing the ability of users to type down a word from a definition given by the computer whilst a clock is ticking away in the background, against which they are playing.

		There is a word store of 3300 lexical items covering five word classes and six levels, ranging from false beginner to advanced. Users are tested on nouns, verbs, adjectives, phrasal verbs/dependent prepositions and idioms and collocations.

		The aim of the program is to get to the top of the highest scores table. Motivation comes from beating your own previous score or that of a colleague/classmate.

		Beat the Clock is an authorable resource which has been designed to be easy to add to, either with more words and phrases under the existing word classes, or with entirely new lexical sets, geared specifically to your own classes.
